Description

Activates opiate receptors (mu, delta and kappa) on the pre- and postsynaptic membranes of nociceptive afferent fibers in the brain and spinal cord as well as in the gastrointestinal tract; contributes to the opening of potassium and calcium channel causes hyperpolarization of membranes and inhibits the conduction of nerve impulses. Slows the breakdown of catecholamines and stabilize their content in the CNS. Analgesic effect is due to a decrease in activity and an increase in nociceptive – antinociceptive systems. Depresses the brain’s cortex, has a sedative effect, inhibits the cough and respiratory centers, excites launcher zone of the vomiting center, the nucleus of the oculomotor nerve; causes a spasm of smooth muscle sphincters.
